Sweet Brasília: Top 5 Desserts and Treats of the Capital

by Cook In Rio - Cook in Fiesta food writer

When I was in Brasília, I was prepared for hearty dishes like beirute sandwiches, but what truly surprised me was how rich and varied the city’s sweets are. From traditional Brazilian favorites to desserts made with fruits of the Cerrado, Brasília has a sweet side that is both comforting and unique.

Doce de Buriti

One of the highlights of my trip was trying doce de buriti, made from the fruit of the buriti palm. The texture was silky, and the flavor was rich, almost caramel-like, with a tropical depth that felt entirely new to me. Some locals serve it with fresh cheese, but even on its own, it was unforgettable.

Brigadeiros

Of course, no sweet journey in Brazil is complete without brigadeiros. In Brasília, I found them at cafés and bakeries in all kinds of flavors, from the traditional chocolate rolled in sprinkles to gourmet versions with pistachio or passion fruit. I couldn’t resist having more than one, and each bite felt like pure comfort.

Pamonha Doce

While pamonha is often savory, the sweet version is just as delicious. Made with corn, sugar, and sometimes coconut, it is steamed in husks until soft and fragrant. I tried it at Feira do Guará, and it instantly became one of my favorite desserts in the city.

Romeu e Julieta

Brasília, like the rest of Minas-influenced Brazil, celebrates the classic pairing of queijo minas with goiabada, known as Romeu e Julieta. I had it as a simple dessert plate, but also baked it into cakes and pastries. The sweet guava paste against the mild, fresh cheese was a combination I kept craving throughout my stay.

Churros at Feira de Ceilândia

For a quick treat, I headed to Feira de Ceilândia and grabbed churros fresh from the fryer. Filled with doce de leite or chocolate, they were hot, crispy, and perfect to eat while wandering through the colorful stalls. It was the kind of street dessert that made me feel like a local, if only for a moment.
