What to eat in Brasília, Brazil. Discover traditional dishes, local flavors, and the best food spots in the capital.

When I visited Brasília, I expected the modernist architecture to impress me, and it did. But the city’s food surprised me just as much. Because Brasília is such a young capital, it has become a meeting point for flavors from every corner of Brazil. Eating here feels like taking a culinary tour of the country, while still discovering dishes unique to the Cerrado region.

Beirute Sandwich

Brasília’s most iconic dish isn’t fancy but it is unforgettable. The beirute sandwich is usually stacked with beef, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and egg inside pita-style bread. I had mine at Beirute Bar, a local institution, and it was so big that I had to share it. It is hearty, affordable, and pure comfort food.

Pamonha

Corn is central to Cerrado cuisine, and pamonha is one of its most beloved expressions. Wrapped and steamed in corn husks, it can be sweet or savory. I tried one with cheese and another with sausage, and both were so satisfying that I couldn’t decide which I liked best.

Arroz com Pequi

Pequi is a fruit native to the Cerrado that has a strong, distinctive flavor. It is not for everyone, but trying arroz com pequi felt like a true Brasília experience. The rice was infused with the fruit’s aroma, earthy and rich, and I loved how it reflected the identity of the region.

Doce de Buriti

For dessert, I discovered doce de buriti, made from the fruit of the buriti palm. It is sweet, silky, and unique to the area. I had it served with fresh cheese, and the combination was both surprising and delicious.
